Send your “May Flowers” to the Original Shrine

Schoenstatt International Coordination

In many countries, the Church’s activities during the month of May are especially dedicated to Mary. Several years ago, this festive period gave rise to a current of life in the Schoenstatt Apostolic Movement called “May Flowers.”

What are May Flowers?

Offering gifts to Mary in her special month is a widespread tradition among Catholics. In Schoenstatt, the idea of conquering ‘spiritual flowers’ for the MTA became popular thanks to the young Joseph Engling.

In 1916, the task of decorating the “May altar,” a centuries-old tradition in Europe during this month, was given to Engling. Guided by Father Joseph Kentenich, he felt inspired to cultivate a garden in his heart.

Thus, the young man not only arranged natural flowers, but also offered many spiritual flowers to the MTA.

May Flowers are our spiritual gifts

Over the years, Engling’s inspiration came to life in the Movement. Many people prepare a spiritual bouquet for the Blessed Mother.

In practice, the idea is to offer acts of love and virtue (such as prayers, sacrifices, works of mercy, etc.), which are like flowers for our Mother.
