Priests with a Marian charism

The Secular Institute of Schoenstatt Fathers, founded in 1965, is a community of priests whose primary mission is to serve the branches and communities of the Schoenstatt Movement throughout the world. It is an Institute of Pontifical Right and its Constitutions were approved in 1994.

The community was founded on July 18, 1965. The first Constitutions were approved by Pope Paul VI in May 1966.

Our mission

Ensure the fruitfulness of Father Kentenich’s charism

Together with the other communities of the Movement, it has the responsibility of fostering the fruitfulness of the charism of Father Joseph Kentenich in today’s world. This includes service in schools, universities, parishes, social projects and other initiatives to promote integral human, spiritual and social development.

Many countries and one mission

At present, the Institute has almost 400 priests and is established in 21 countries, serving the Schoenstatt Movement in about 20 other countries. It is organised into Provinces and Delegations with their own structures under the General Council, which has its headquarters in Schoenstatt, Germany.
