Epistola Perlonga is published for the first time in Spanish

This Saturday, May 31, 2025, Editorial Nueva Patris will present the book “Epistola Perlonga. Letter of Response from Fr. Kentenich to the Report of the Episcopal Visitation of 1949,” which corresponds to Volume 1 of Study Edition 5 of the Documents on the History of the Schoenstatt Apostolic Movement. The book is the result of a coordinated effort by Fr. Eduardo Aguirre.

This book contains the first two parts of the Epistola Perlonga, or letter of May 31, written 76 years ago by Fr. Joseph Kentenich in response to the 1949 Episcopal Visitation Report, in which he presents the charism and pedagogy of Schoenstatt. The letter is associated with the date of Schoenstatt’s third milestone because the first part was left on that day on the altar of the then newly blessed Bellavista Shrine in Santiago, Chile.

Volume 2 of this book will be presented in the second half of this year and contains the last three parts of the response.

Today, for the first time, this letter is being published in Spanish in a historical-critical edition that takes into account the history of the text’s origin and development, carefully researching the sources used by Father Kentenich in his quotations and references. This was made possible by the work of scholars Manfred Gerwing and Joachim Söder.
