Ecology and Faith: A Call for Harmony

Ms. Rosana Silva

“One vision can only be defeated by another vision” JK

Ecology, at its core, speaks to us of the connection between all living beings and their environment. It reminds us that we are part of a greater “home” (oikos), a complex and delicate system that we must care for. This vision of interdependence and responsibility resonates deeply with faith.

From a Christian perspective, creation is a gift from God, a garden entrusted to us to nurture and protect. Faith impels us to recognize the dignity of every creature and to act as responsible stewards of creation.

Schoenstatt and the vision of a New Social Order

In his October Letter of 1948, Father Kentenich invites us to reflect on the creation of a new social order. He warns us about the dangers of an economy that separates itself from the natural order and turns its back on God. His vision calls us to seek a well-being that is not based on rampant consumerism, but on harmony with nature and respect for the limits of the planet.

Vulnerability, Interconnection and Solidarity

The pandemic and natural disasters have reminded us of our vulnerability and our deep connection with nature. We are not omnipotent, but rather part of an ecosystem on which we depend. Faith invites us to recognize this vulnerability, to live in solidarity with our fellow human beings and to care for creation as a common home.

Schoenstatt: A Movement in Action

Schoenstatt, as a Movement, can play an important role in building a sustainable future. Through the Covenant of Love with our Mother Thrice Admirable, we can ask for the grace to open ourselves to her spiritual breath, discovering and living in depth our vulnerability, our interconnection with nature and our solidarity.
