The Dominican Episcopal Conference (CED) announced last Thursday, July 2, the formation of its new board of directors for the 2026–2029 term. The Plenary Assembly of the bishops of the Dominican Republic elected Monsignor Ramón Alfredo de la Cruz Baldera, a member of the Schoenstatt Institute of Diocesan Priests, as its new president. The bishops’ meeting took place from June 28 to July 3.
Bishop Ramón Alfredo de la Cruz Baldera is the bishop of the Diocese of San Francisco de Macorís. In 2023, he was one of those summoned by Pope Francis to participate in the first phase of the Synodal Assembly in Rome.
Bishop Carlos Tomás Morel will hold the position of Vice President, while Bishop José Amable Durán will serve as Secretary General.
The team will also include Bishop Santiago Rodríguez and Bishop Andrés Napoleón Romero.
“I accept this with humility”
Bishop Ramón Alfredo Baldera expressed gratitude upon assuming responsibility for leading the Dominican Episcopal Conference. He affirmed his willingness to serve, motivated by a spirit of solidarity and commitment to the people.
“I accept this with humility. We are always here to serve the Church from our various posts. I accept this with humility and also mindful of the responsibility it entails to continue guiding our Church along the path of solidarity and toward a Church more committed to the poorest in our society,” he told the media.
This Friday, the CED’s new executive board met with the country’s president, Luis Abinader. The president congratulated the Conference’s new leadership and expressed his satisfaction with the election of Monsignor Alfredo de la Cruz.
