The book “Nos Passos do Peregrino: Sobre a Vida e Obra do Diácono João Luiz Pozzobon” (In the Footsteps of the Pilgrim: On the Life and Work of Deacon João Luiz Pozzobon), which brings together the main fruits of the Academic Congress held in 2025 at the Franciscan University (UFN) of Santa Maria/RS, Brazil, is available free of charge in digital format.
The conferences are in the original language in which they were presented (Portuguese or Spanish). Abstracts of the articles presented are available in Portuguese, English, and Spanish.
The publication presents the conferences, panels, and scientific communications that delve into the life, spirituality, evangelizing mission, and legacy of Venerable Deacon João Luiz Pozzobon.
Among the highlights of the work are the inaugural conference by Monsignor Leomar Antonio Brustolin, Archbishop of Santa Maria, who addressed the ecclesiological relevance of Pozzobon’s missionary spirituality; the historical and pastoral panels with researchers from the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) and members of the Schoenstatt Apostolic Movement, including Fr. Alexandre Awi Melo, former secretary of the Dicastery for Laity, Family, and Life at the Vatican; and the final conference by Monsignor Melchor Sánchez de Toca Alameda, from the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, rapporteur of the Positio on the heroic virtues of the Venerable Deacon.
The book also includes significant testimonies, including the account of one of João Luiz Pozzobon’s sons, his last parish priest, as well as other memories that help to understand his legacy and his reputation for holiness in various parts of the world.
The publication also highlights the interdisciplinary richness of the scientific communications and records the spiritual and cultural dimension of the Congress.
By making this work available digitally and free of charge, the Cause for Beatification wishes to encourage reading, academic research, and the dissemination of the testimony of the Venerable Deacon João Luiz Pozzobon’s holiness, strengthening his memory and his evangelizing mission in the Church and in the world.
