To be land, to be faithful, to be holy, an ideal
REGIÓN DE ÑUBLE, CHILE, Pablo Gaete Martínez •
On Friday, September 4th, like every month, the members of the different groups and branches that form the family of the Mount Horeb Shrine, of Chillán, in the Region of Ñuble, met in the traditional activity called “Around the Table”. Before the pandemic, we met every Friday in the multiple purpose room of our sanctuary, after Mass with a consommé, mate or something to drink, eat and share a topic of conversation. COVID-19 has brought us together in our homes, and digital platforms have allowed family life to go on stronger.
The theme of this meeting was: “How to bring to life our ideal of family: Faithful Land of the Father, cradle of sanctity” and the speakers were Patricio de la Fuente and Paulina Benavente, members of the Institute of Families.
This meeting is part of the preparations for our Silver Jubilee of the Shrine, which was blessed on November 18, 1995, and which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary. For some weeks now, the “Pilgrim Shrine” has been on pilgrimage to different homes, as an initiative of the Jubilee Commission presided by Ivan Canales, of the Dawnbreakers. It is a model made by the organizers, which visits each home of the family of the Shrine, with the purpose of bonding and preparing ourselves spiritually for the anniversary. Along with the model, there are small sheets of paper where intentions, gratitude and contributions to the Capital of Grace are written as a way to reconquer our shrine in this context of pandemic.
The land that God fecundated
During the presentation, Patricio and Paulina highlighted that the first desire was to have the land so that the Blessed Mother could establish herself in our family of Chillan. In the concept of land, the desire to shape something of their own appears, taking into consideration the reality of our region of Ñuble, which is an agricultural area and the concept of land that God was going to have to fertilize and give fruit. God offers us the land, strengthening through prayer the spiritual cultivation of each of us (knowing each of us who we are) and what he has offered for each of us, our life, our personal history, etc. Paulina and Patricio also remembered that Schoenstatt offers us the tools to reinforce this cultivation of each one of us. For example, the personal ideal which is nothing other than what I was created for. They invited us to do permanent work on our personal ideal and our spiritual schedule.
Then, they invited us to answer the following questions:
– How is my personal formation?
– How is our bond with God?
Faithful land with a mission
We analyzed each part of the family ideal, the faithful land of the father, the fidelity of those who took the first steps of our movement in Chillán, which is still alive today. A land faithful to its creator and to itself, this land makes sense in the context of belonging to the God who created us and gave us a mission.
How to live that fidelity, based on the words of Pope Francis, when he tells us that we must go out of ourselves to meet the concrete person with the face of Christ, to open our eyes and heart to the poor, the sick, to those who do not have work, to those wounded by the indifference, to leave our selfishness, to reject the temptation of the desperation and to maintain alive the flame of hope; and on the basis of it what nation we want to build for the future generations.
We are the Father’s faithful land because we are his precious possession and we see it in the very book of Genesis, in the Old Testament. We are his creations, chosen by him, and in it we discover our reason for being and our mission.
Cradle of sanctity and great characters of history
We are a cradle of sanctity, because Chillán, and therefore our young region that is celebrating its second year of existence, is the cradle of great characters that have put the name of our Chile on high, beyond our borders. When the sanctuary was blessed in 1995, Chillán was the capital of the then Province of Ñuble, in the Region of the Bío-Bío. From September of 2018, Ñuble separates from the Region of Bío-Bío and happens to be its own region, and Chillán is elevated to regional capital. Territorially, the Ñuble Region is the cradle of great characters of our history: Bernardo O’Higgins, Arturo Prat, Claudio Arrau, Violeta Parra, Marta Colvin, among others, were born there.
Our sanctuary is a faithful cradle of sanctity because it requires a certain style, which is our home shrine, something typical of our spirituality.
About sanctification, we reflect about how to cultivate our life of prayer, in the ordinary of every day, with our friends, at work or at home, and the daily prayer apostolate (As family of Chillán, we say 3 times The Confidence Prayer everyday) for the health and service personnel) etc.
Founding generation and mission consciousness
Afterwards, they wanted to share an experience they had received during their formation at the Institute of Families, with Paul Brunner, in relation to being saints and the challenge of sanctity in everyday life, that living desire to feel loved by God as his children.
We were called to take up the challenge of being part of a founding generation, at a time when Schoenstatt needs a new founding generation, one that is mission-conscious, that is not afraid of the challenge of living and giving oneself for the ideals for the next twenty-five years, and in the face of these questions, we can only find one possible answer: “Nothing without you, nothing without us”.
We ended this meeting with a panel, where each of the participants had the opportunity to ask or express their feelings and be aware that we are instruments of God. With the blessing of our family advisor, Father Felipe Bezanilla, ended this profound meeting.
