“My living crown”
In Hungary young people get involved during Corona
On April 15, 2020, the Hungarian family movement joined the initiative, in unity with the international community, to crown Our Lady as Queen of the Crown Crisis.
We announced a novena in the days before the event. We prepared for the celebration for nine days, in the form of daily messages, which we sent to families in an electronic newsletter so that they could be spiritually prepared for the coronation until the Easter holidays.
Fall, stand up,
adjust the crown,
In 1939, Father Kentenich first crowned Our Lady at the beginning of World War II. The crisis of our time invites us to a similar gesture. As we prepared for Easter, we took steps inward and toward Our Lady.
On Holy Saturday, we looked forward with confidence to the resurrection with Jesus and Mary. We sought into our own lives personally and in our circumstances what way we expect the resurrection? We asked families to pray wholeheartedly for these intentions!
“Servus Mariae nuquam peribit” – Mary’s servant is never lost –
These words we can read in our Shrine very close to the image of our Mother and Queen.
It’s a promise that light will come at the end of the tunnel.
We recalled the coronation of our MTA picture in the Hungarian Shrine (2017).
We remembered Father Kentenich’s letter to Fritz Esser at the beginning and we let this letter inspire us in this spiritual situation:
Stay a carefree child!
Good God led your soul through the dark night…
Don’t let anything you read and hear shatter you spiritually. (…) And besides, remain the carefree child who you always were, who is holding the hand of the heavenly Mother.
- Kentenich, 10/06/1920. in Brief an Fritz Esser
By crowning Our Lady, we express the trust and confidence we feel for her.
On each day of the novena and on the evening of the celebration, we turned towards Mary with the following prayer:
Our dear Virgin Mother!
In a crisis situation caused by a coronavirus pandemic, we turn to you with confidence! Pray with us and for us that through our prayers, faithful fulfilment of duties, and sacrifices, we can help bring the epidemic to an end as soon as possible and create a new consecrated way of life in the world! Help us so that our Heavenly Father can shape us in this special situation as He intended!
On April 15, 2020, on the day of the ceremony, we were virtually together with Sister Gertrud-Maria Erhard, who gave a video message from Kahlenberg. Then in our homes we all offered our prayers and ourselves in our home shrines, and we invited Our Lady to be with us, and then the central celebration in the Original Shrine could be followed by the community online.
Sister Gertrud-Maria Erhard quoted from the scriptures the letter of St. Paul to the Philippians:
“Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, dear friends!” (Phil 4:1) Our father Kentenich puts it like St. Paul:
“You are my living crown.”
As a continuation of the international coronation of Our Lady, Sister Gertrud-Maria Erhard and the Hungarian Schönstatt Family announced a new novena.
In our community, in our families, there is “a team” among our youth whom God has called to sanctified life. They introduce themselves to the community for nine weeks so that their example can captivate us. Among them is a priest of Schönstatt who has already been ordained, others are preparing for priestly, monastic vocations, or missionaries, and one of them is preparing to be ordained a priest this summer.
We work and pray that we will all understand and hear what God is calling us for. We want to give thanks for all our young people who are on this path of vocation and strengthen them with our prayers. We also pray that our young people will hear God’s calling word with the morning prayer of Father Kentenich’s Heavenwards prayer book: “You will send us vocations who join us in pledging themselves for your kingdom. You will give us work and richly bless us and unite your unlimited power to our powerlessness.”
In the novena of “My Living Crown” we call on the young people and families of the Hungarian Schönstatt, to accompany their unfolding priestly, religious vocations and devoted lives with their offerings, prayers, their striving for renewal.
What can those who join do?
They can choose specific resolutions, recommended prayers, to be more fruitful in their spiritual lives.
Adapting to the changing opportunities provided by the pandemic, for nine weeks, those belonging to our community, receive messages through various electronic channels (newsletter, facebook youth, facebook family, family website). A dedicated young person is presented each week; thoughts are unfolded about our personal ideal to maintain the initial call and decision. We strive to become the living crown of Mary by praying for priestly and monastic vocations, searching for and renewing our own vocations.
“When we consider our own strength
we lose all hope and confidence.
Mother, we stretch out our hands to you
and ask for your many gifts of love.
Even in storms and dangers
you will always remain faithful
to the covenant you have sealed with us
and enriched with countless graces.
You will send us vocations
who join us in pledging themselves for your kingdom.
You will give us work and richly bless us
and unite your unlimited power to our powerlessness.”
(from the prayer book Heavenwards / Morning Consecration)
