Serve the most needed and forgotten ones
Our names are Patricio Cabal y Bernardita Abarca de Cabal, we have been part of the Movement for 24 years, and we belong to the 2nd Militancy Circle.
We are in charge of the For God’s Labor Foundation, “Pro Labore Dei”, since 2010, legally constituted in the city of Guayaquil-Ecuador. This is an international Foundation with its headquarters in Nigeria. We were the first institution in Latin America. There are other two in Perú and Colombia.
Our apostolate is to serve the most needed and forgotten ones through works of mercy, that’s why our labor is focused on a very poor sector of the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador, called “La Ladrillera” in which we serve 120 families. The main activities that we do are catechesis to the children, preparing them for baptisms, first communions, confirmations and the sacrament of marriage. Besides, they’re given small talks every Saturday about Family Orientation and Catholic Doctrine, that’s because of the many sects in that sector (we are the only Catholics in the zone). They’re given food three times a week; so far we have built 32 decent homes for them, created micro business and medical brigades, we have given them scholarships for the children to study and also help the people to bury their deceased family members properly.
Also in the place where our headquarters is located, we serve 45 adults Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 a.m. with several activities. We have four permanent employees: a secretary, two maintenance assistants (half time) and a full-time driver; and as volunteers, 20 people that help us based on the activities we do.
We remain working thanks to the donations from friends, a permanent wardrobe, institutions that donate food before expiration, and one Bingo game a year. Our mission is to bring Schoenstatt’s spirituality to this sector, that’s why we have formed prayer groups wherein each house there’s an image of our dear BlessedMother, and once a month the Schoenstatt Youth visit the homes of the moms that are part of the group.
We currently have the support of groups of marriages form the movement that is giving the baptism and premarital talks to the families we serve.
